Arm Exercise

Almost every time I get on Pinterest, I see a new braided hairstyle that looks arm-numbingly crazy and incredibly beautiful. I’ve really become obsessed with braids over the past year- they’re just so perfect when either a) I need to spice up an ensemble or b) my hair just isn’t cooperating. Check some of these out!

A far cry from the pigtail braids of elementary school, right? Other than the classic, I’ve only mastered the fishtail, the ponytail braid (#5) and the waterfall (#4 - only on really good days though, and when I have to time and patience to keep both arms over my head while I fumble around with my hair). I’d really like to attempt some of these others this summer. Better start hitting the weights...

A Little Organization Inspiration for Your Friday!

I’m staring at my desk as I write this from my bed, and here is what I see: several stacks of notebooks and random papers, three cups, a coffee mug, a box of stationary, random odds and ends (paper clips, push pins, hair ties… things of that nature), and to top it all off, several articles of clothing over the back of my chair. (Where are the pens and pencils, you ask? Those are in the drawer, and I’m not even going to go there…)

Needless to say, desk space has not been a recent priority.

Finals week starts today (and yes – I do think Friday is an odd day for finals to begin), and I’m thinking I could really use some clear desk space to kick-start my brain power. Here is a little inspiration I’ve been sifting through in an attempt to muster up some organization motivation!

Now that's a calendar! Plus- I love the idea of spelling your name with letter mugs for pen/pencil storage.

 Fabulous chair!

Fresh flowers make all desk-work more fun!

I like the big number labels.

Great filing system.

 ... it's so clean!

But first, to help y'all get to know me a little better, here are a few random facts about myself:

 This is me.
Like Kim, I am a Meredith College Angel! (Next year is my senior year! Unbelievable...)

I'm obsessed with coffee. (Much to my dentist's dismay...)
I love bright colors. My fashion choices used to be called "creative". Now they're called "color-blocking". (I like to think I was ahead of the curve... ;))

This one time, I went to Italy... and I haven't been able to stop talking about it since!

I'm one of those people who takes lots of pictures of their food in restaurants...

 ... over
... and over again.

Being crafty makes me happy. (I can't wait to show y'all what I did with these bows!)

...did I mention the coffee obsession?

And one could hardly be involved with Invite Cottage without loving monograms... I am definitely no exception!

2012 Ultimate Blog Party

Hey Everybody!  I just came across this Blog Party on my friend, Laurie's, blog.  Cool, fun idea and great way to meet fellow bloggers.

For those of you who are new to Invite Cottage...papers & gifts, let me introduce myself.  My name is Kim and I have been in the personalized gifts, stationery & invitation business since 1993!   Originally, I had a shop selling invitations, then added the personalized gifts, and eventually launched a website in 2004.  From there, cyberspace took over and now we are 100% website, carrying personalized products from lots of great vendors all over the US.

In November, 2011, we finally launched our newest site to retire the old, very tired & worn out one.  We are really excited about the new site, as it gives us so much more flexibility to add great new products, quicker and easier to order.

By night, I am a busy mother of a 15 year old girl & 12 year old boy.  If we aren't at dance class, we are at basketball practice.  My husband works in corporate America, so we are just the typical busy family of 4.  We do love to get in the kitchen and cook up a yummy meal!  I love seeing my kids appreciating good food :).

Here is a picture of me in my favorite place in the world...the beach!  This is a picture of my kids from a few years ago, but it shows the good times on the boat (taken near the same dock as the one of me).

Hope you all have a great week.  It is beautiful here in NC...can't wait for summer!!!

We are so excited about this new line of personalized gifts. I definitely need a belt! And, if my kids were babies, they would so have the little onesies & tshirts for this summer. With so many patterns, colors & monogram/font styles, the sky's the limit on the possibilities!

Tangerine Tango...just one of 5 Must Have Colors for Spring, 2012.  Here they are:

  • Tanerine Tango - Tangerine Tango is a vivid, refreshing must-have color for spring. Make a playful statement from head-to-toe or as an accent in this happy, free-spirited color palette.
  • Solar Power Yellow - For a jolt of energy, Solar Power is a wonderful mix of yellows, blonds & ambers. It radiates warmth and cheerful moods with the influences of a bright sunny Spring day.
  • Nautical Blue - The classic palette of Nautical Blue screams spring. It exhibits a calming sense of structure and order with a hint of whimsy and character.
  • Hot Pink - The beautiful, brilliant Hot Pinks color palette for spring 2012 will translate nicely into summer time. This enthusiastic color palette is alive with joy and intensity.
  • Pastels - The softness of lilac, sea foam green, baby blues and creams are a wonderful balance of simplicity. Yet these colors pair nicely with the boldness of Hot Pinks & Solar Power for this spring.

Fashion Trends for Spring, 2012 from Kokoon

Here's a great synopsis of Spring, 2012 fashion from my friend, the Kokoon rep (great clothing line if you aren't familiar with it http://www.kokoon.net/):

Here is a trend direction analysis from Kokoon's designer, Laine Weinberg if you are interested.....

Neutral shades of beige, nude, and blush are still very popular, and while there’s a push for pastels to make a comeback, theses neutrals are kind of taking the place of pastels in a more sophisticated way.

Light Greys, Charcoal, Mocha colors and Navy are also strong neutrals and look great when paired with the bright, saturated colors that are going strong. You’ll be seeing a lot of Reds and bright Pinks and Purples, Turquoise and Blues, Happy Greens and Yellows, and of course

Pantone’s color of the season:  Tangerine Tango.

I’m so excited that Tribal prints are still really strong, and for people who shy away from prints in general, Tribal is a way to do prints in a more toned down way. And these type of prints are a great backdrop for jewelry.

Pretty Florals are making a huge comeback this season.

The 60’s ladylike influence has moved forward from just silhouettes to prints, and now you’re going to see a resurgence in floral prints.  Adding to the feminine details are lots of Neck tie details and pretty blouses. I love watching Kelly Rippa, and she’s wearing a neck tie at least 3 days a week.

Sporty Stripes are one of the biggest trends of the season. In fact it’s almost impossible to source fabrics right now without about 80% of the fabrics being striped. But the fun part about the stripes are that there really is a big variety. From very wide, which read almost more like a print or color blocking, to tiny stripes which read almost like a solid.

I’ve never been much for traditional nautical stripes, but this season they look fresh and new, and stripes are adding a lot of impact to casual, sporty silhouettes.

A slouchy, relaxed, cool vibe is so important right now. Dropped shoulders, Wide sleeves and Dolman  sleeves, hip-resting skirts… all contribute to that relaxed look.

Asymmetrical bodies are still interesting and important, as is draping and shirring, but now start to take on a more relaxed vibe.

70’s Influenced wide leg and flared pants, Maxi length skirts and dresses are gaining in popularity, and maybe this spring and summer our clients will embrace them.

Midilengths are also a trendy look, but I must say our clients (and most of you) have rejected them. We’ll have to let that one percolate for awhile.

One of the newest actual silhouette trends happening is the popularity of dropped waists.

This is something we introduced late last spring with the Drop it Like it’s Hot Dress, which we didn’t think would sell very well, and it was immediately embraced by our clients. This is another example of that
slouched, relaxed vibe that translates really well into our clients’ real lives.

80’s influenced off the shoulder bodies, like the Jennifer, are so feminine, and combine slouchy and sexy into one look. This was another body I was surprised was embraced so quickly by our clients. It’s easy to wear, and really looks great on all sizes and ages.

Openwork and body revealing cutouts have been a mini trend for the past few seasons, and I’m interpreting some of these details into very wearable and super cute items that I think will be very well received.

There’s always a little lace trend happening, and we have a long history of lace at KOKOON.  We have some really cute lace details and a new little lace skirt that is very appealing, taking the lace look away from overtly sexy and again, giving it a more casual vibe.

In other trends, you can rest assured that no one will be taking your leggings away any time soon. Pants range from 60′s pencil ankle-croppers, to wide flares, to high waisted to super slouchy.

Crisp Black and White is always right for spring and again, is a way to ‘do’ pattern for our ladies who shy away from prints. We have a terrific ‘Waverider’ textured knit that is really beautiful and interesting.

Whew, it's been so long since we last posted, but, we're back!!!! Last year was a busy one but the good news is that we finally got our new site, www.InviteCottage.com is up & live! We have lots to come but wanted to test out blogging on the IPad :) Kim
